Plot

Yuvakudu is the story of a free spirited college student, Siva (Sumanth), who shares a very close bond with his mother, played by Jayasudha . Siva is the son of an army officer who's killed in the line of duty. Despite the disapproval of his mother, Siva secretly harbors a strong desire of following in his father's footsteps by joining the army. The fun loving youngster also falls in love with Sindhu(Bhumika) but the girl does not reciprocate his love. She rejects his marriage proposal and the relationship takes a negative tone. Knowing her son's love for Sindhu, Jayasudha takes the responsibility of bringing them together. She meets Sindhu who too takes an instant liking for Jayasudha. Jayasudha eventually asks Sindhu to marry her son. Sindhu accepts the proposal saying that she's doing so only for the sake of Siva's mother. Despite a rocky start to their marriage, their relationship finally settles down. However the story takes an unexpected turn when Siva is selected into the Army. He joins the army against the wishes of his mother and their relationship turns sour. How Siva eventually proves himself in the line of duty and reconciles with his mother forms the rest of the story.

Plot

Godavari is a film about Ram, Seetha and the river cruise that brings them together. Its a semi-urban love story set against the scenic backdrop of the Godavari river aboard a houseboat also called the “Godavari”.

Its a story about Ram and Seetha who decide to take a break from their disappointing lives in the city. They leave behind their personal and professional problems and decide to take a cruise on the river, Godavari, from Rajamundry to Badrachalam.

They meet aboard the cruise liner and from there starts a story involving friendship, adventure, and eventually love. The story also reflects the characteristic culture of the Godavari region. There are also several sub stories involving the other characters on the house boat

Ram (Sumanth) is an idealistic man. He wishes to make a career in politics even though he’s actually a software engineer with a degree from the USA. He lives with his grandmother in a middle class colony. He's in love with his cousin, Raji, whom he hopes to marry someday. However Raji declines Ram's proposal as she's insecure about his professional and financial future. A heartbroken but realistic Ram is forced to join her and his family on the river journey to Badrachalam, where Raji is due to get married to another man, Ravi. Ravi unlike Ram is a rich guy and also an IPS recruit.

Seetha (Kamalinee) runs an unsuccessful clothing boutique. Her parents want her to forget about her business and tell her to get married instead. Seetha is not enthusiastic about the idea, however circumstances force her to reluctantly agree with her parents. Unfortunately, the marriage alliance doesn’t work out for her and she subsequently choses to take a break from everything by going on the same Godavari river journey. How Ram and Sita fall in love forms the rest of the story.

The animated dog (voice over given by Sekhar Kammula) and parrot also have their significant roles in the movie. The treasure hunt scenes are fun to watch.

Classmates (Telugu: క్లాస్ మేట్స్) is a 2007 Tollywood film that is a remake of the Malayalam Blockbuster of the same name. The film stars Sumanth, Ravi Varma, Sharwanand, Sadha, Sunil, & Kamalinee Mukherjee. K. Vijaya Bhaskar directed the film and Sravanti Ravi Kishore produced it. The film released on 20 April 2007.
This story is about a group of classmates that had a tragic event occur at the end of their school days, resulting in the death of one of their friends. The plot evolves around the classmate reunion that occurs 10 years later. Ravi (Sumanth), Raaji (Sadha), Satish (Ravi Varma), Razia (Kamalinee Mukherjee), Murali (Sharwanand) and Baddu (Sunil) are alumni of a college in Warangal. Ten years after passing out from the college, they meet in Warangal on an invitation by a professor (Kota Srinivasa Rao). Though they were classmates, they share complex relationships. Ravi's best buddy is Buddu. Ravi and Raaji are ex-lovers. Satish nurses grudge against Ravi. After dinner, Ravi is found strangled in his room. The police contemplate if it is a suicide or a murder. As the investigation progresses, the flashback opens in Warangal college. Razia is revealed to be the murderer. Ravi, one night ten years ago, accidentally killed Murali thinking he was someone else. Razia, who was in love with Murali, wanted revenge and tried killing Ravi unsuccessfully. They all lived forgetting their past happily.

Madhumasam

Madhumasam (Telugu: మధుమాసం) is a Telugu film produced by D. Ramanaidu and directed by Chandra Siddhartha. The film has Sumanth, Sneha, and Parvati Melton in lead roles. This film released on 9th February. 2007 and was a hit at the box office having a run of over a hundred days in a few centres.

Plot

Sanjay (Sumanth) is an extremely practical guy who believes in nothing but logic and reasoning. He listens to his mind and ignores his heart. Hamsa Vahini (Sneha) is a girl who believes strongly in human bonds and trusts everybody easily. Hamsa likes Sanjay immensely and proposes to marry him. Sanjay too accepts the proposal. In a casual chitchat, Sanjay reveals that he does not love her though he is marrying her. He feels that it is a marriage of convenience and practicality. Sanjay's confession hurts Hamsa and she cancels the engagement. As Sanjay slowly realizes the power of love and starts missing her, Hamsa becomes pragmatic and practical due to her family related circumstances, and ignores his pleas for forgiveness. The rest of the story is all about how she finally accepts Sanjay's love.

Raaj

Raaj (Telugu: రాజ్) is a 2011 Telugu film directed by V. N. Aditya and produced under the banner of Kumar Brothers Cinema. Sumanth, Priyamani and Vimala Raman played the lead roles. Koti is the music composer for this film. It released in late February, 2011 and failed at the box office. It was later dubbed into Tamil and Malayalam under the title Maharani - The Beauty Queen.

Plot

The story is about a fashion photographer, Raaj (Sumanth), who is caught in between his wife, Mythili, played by (Priyamani) and his ex-lover, Priya (Vimala Raman). Raaj chose not to tell Mythili about Priya and finds it difficult to adjust with his wife during the early days of marriage. However, their relationship improves with time and they finally get close. Just when things look to settle down, Priya comes back into Raaj's life unexpectedly. He's very curios about why Priya left him abruptly in the past. Priya is later kidnapped by her scorned lover, played by Ajay'. Raaj saves her from his clutches subsequently. In an unexpected twist, it is revealed that Mythili and Priya were actually classmates in school. Raaj later uncovers Priya's ulterior motive, tells Mythili the truth, and reconciles with his wife.

Boni

Boni (Telugu: బోణీ) is a 2009 Telugu action film that stars Sumanth and Kriti Kharbanda. It is directed by Raj Pippalla, with Ramana Gogula composing music as well as producing the film. The film had an unsuccessful run at the box office.

Plot

DD (Sumanth) Chinna (trinetrudu) are two close friends who are brought up in an orphanage. They are very fond of Saraswatamma (Sudha) who took care of them there. Saraswatamma was very good at preparing tamarind rice (pulihora). DD wishes to start a pulihora center in memory of Saraswatamma when he grows up. In order to earn the money to do so, he joins a mafia gang doing small odd jobs. Pragati (Kriti Kharbanda) is the daughter of a millionaire politician. She is kind hearted and works for an NGO. She comes to know that a certain landlord has cheated the people of the village that her NGO works for. The court, out of no choice, tells the farmers that they need to pay 4 crores to the landlord if they wish to regain their land. Pragati asks her father to help out the villagers and he says, yes. Later when she finds out that her father has actually lied to her, she argues with him and leaves his house. Pragati's friend sketches a self-kidnap plan in order to demand 4 crores as ransom from her father. Things go awry when DD and Chinna accidentally kidnap Pragathi at the same time as she's supposed to be kidnapped by someone else. The rest of the story is all about how DD and Pragati realise their goals while falling in love with each other

Golconda High School

Golconda High School (Telugu: గోల్కొండ హై స్కూల్) is a 2011 Indian Telugu language sports film written and directed by Mohan Krishna Indraganti under the Artbeat Capital banner, which earlier produced the hit film Ashta Chamma (film). It stars Sumanth and Swati Reddy in the lead roles. The noted cinematographer, K. K. Senthil, was the DOP for the film, and the music was scored by Kalyani Malik. The movie is based on the book The Men Within, written by Hari Mohan Paruvu. Released on January 15, 2011. In addition to receiving excellent reviews, it was declared a commercial hit as well. It also received a very high TRP rating on its Television premiere on April 17, 2011. The film is also slated to be dubbed into the English language for an upcoming national/international release.

Plot

Golconda High School's Board’s Trustees' member Kireet Das comes up with a proposal of turning the cricket playground into an IIT coaching center. Principal K.Viswanath opposes that proposal vehemently with the support of few trustees. Kireet then tells the principal to show positive results in at least one sport if he wants to hold on to the playground. Viswanath comes up with a proposal that the playground should be retained if GHS’s cricket team manages to win the State level cricket league tournament. He summons his former GHS student, Sampath, an idealist who leads a dejected life. Sampath, after confronting Kireet, joins GHS as the cricket coach and he has three months to convert the disoriented GHS cricket team of 14 students into champions.
Led by Siddanth and their lack of discipline, the team initially resists Sampath's training. Despite trying to get under Sampath's skin, they fail to persuade their coach to change his methods. Frustrated, Siddanth challenges Sampath to a students vs. teachers cricket game--the deal being that if the students win, they will not follow Sampath's coaching anymore. Towards the end of the game, the frustrated Siddanth deserts his losing team. Gowtham subsequently takes over captaincy and the students manage to tie the game when Sampath purposely gets bowled out in the last over. The students get very impressed with Sampath's cricketing prowess and decide to follow his coaching despite Siddanth's opposition.
Later, after Sampath helps remove a police case against another student, Mikey, they realize his compassionate nature and embrace his coaching entirely. Siddanth too follow suit. The GHS team, after coming to know of the deal between Kireet and Vishwanath over the cricket ground, get further motivated and raise their efforts towards winning every match. The team advance to the finals of the championship--the final match being against the very strong Everglades team. Right before the finals, the GHS boys come to know that the Everglades coach Sundar and Sampath share some bad blood from the past. When Sampath refuses to reveal his personal history with Sundar, they start doubting Sampath and lose focus, letting their opponents amass over 190 runs in 20 overs. During the break, Vishwanath, coming to know of the misunderstanding between coach and team, tells the boys exactly what had happened between Sampath and Sundar almost 15 years ago--Sundar, also an ex GHS student Sundar purposely got Sampath run out during the final championship match, where latter had played brilliantly. To attain personal glory, Sundar went onto black list Sampath, depriving him of any future in cricket.
The team, upon realising the truth, apologise to Sampath for misunderstanding him. Sampath motivates them with a stirring speech subsequently. GHS comes onto field with 10 batsmen as Siddanth suffers an injury during fielding. They virtually chase down the big score and the match is tantalizingly poised in the last over. Siddhanth, to the surprise of everyone, unexpectedly comes back from injury and wins the game for GHS on the last ball.
Golconda High School wins the championship for the first time in 15 years, and the cricket ground is saved.

Snehamante Idera (Telugu: స్నేహమంటే ఇదేరా) (Dubbed into Hindi in 2007 as Naya Jigar) is a 2001 film directed by Bala Sekharan and produced by R.B. Chowdary. The film stars Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sumanth, Bhoomika Chawla, Sudhakar and Pratyusha. It's a remake of Malayalam film Friends. It had an average run at the box office.
Aravind (Akkineni Nagarjuna), Chandru (Sumanth) and Krishna Murthy (Sudhakar) are childhood friends. Chandru and Krishna Murthy are orphans, who are generously brought up by the parents of Aravind. By the time they reach their 20's, Aravind's sister Amrita (Pratyusha) falls in love with Chandru. Chandru hesitates to love her, as she is the sister of his close friend. Chandru seeks the help of Krishna Murthy to avoid Amrita. After the entire episode, Aravind and Chandru go to Hyderabad to work with Krishna Murthy. When this trio is assigned to renovate an old palatial house, Aravind encounters Padmini (Bhoomika Chawla). A mischief by the jealous cousin sister of Padmini results Aravind falling for Padmini. When Padmini is about to get engaged to another guy, Chandru announces that Padmini cheated Aravind after loving him. The rest of the film is about how the two pairs (Arvind - Padmini and Chandru - Amrita) unite.

Chinnodu

Chinnodu (Telugu: చిన్నోడు) is a 2006 Tollywood film that stars Sumanth, Charmme Kaur, and Rahul Dev. It is directed by Kanmani. It was a moderate success at the box office. It was later dubbed into Hindi under the title Ek aur Ilzaam.

Plot

Chinna (Sumanth) is born in jail to a convict mother who dies during childbirth. The Jailer (Chandra Mohan) feels sorry for Chinna and adopts him. He brings up Chinna along with his son, Sanjay (Rajiv Kanakala) and daughter. In a dramatic situation, Chinna kills the Jailer’s brother and is put in jail. Upon release, the jailer and his family tell Chinna to stay away from them. So Chinna moves into a rough neighborhood that happens to be under the control of the local mafia there. He overpowers the mafia there eventually and becomes a protector for the people there. A clerk in the commissioner’s office (Charmy Kaur) enters as a co-tenant in Chinna's house. Love sprouts between them. However, she mistakenly assumes that Chinna is a soft natured guy. She's unaware of his reputation in that locality nor of his murderous past. Their relationship breaks when she finally discovers the truth about Chinna. How do they get back together? Why did Chinna kill the jailer’s brother? Will Chinna become a part of the jailer’s family again? All these questions are answered towards the end when the shocking truth is revealed by the Jailer's wife.

Gowri

Gowri (Telugu: గౌరి) is a 2004 Telugu film that was directed by B.V. Ramana. The action/drama film stars Sumanth and Charmme Kaur. It was produced by Sravanti Ravi Kishore. It is a remake of a Tamil film, Thirumalai which starred Joseph Vijay in the main lead alongside with Jyothika. Gowri was a hit at the box office collecting close to 11 crore Rs. It was later dubbed into Hindi under the title The Gunda.

Plot

Gowri (Sumanth) is a motorcycle mechanic living in the Dhoolpet area of Hyderabad. Swetha (Charmme Kaur) is a college student who is the daughter of media baron Chandra Sekhar (Vizag Prasad). Gowri and Swetha fall in love with each other to the disapproval of Chandra Sekhar. He seeks the help of a mafia leader Sarkar (Atul Kulakarni) to separate Gowri and Swetha. The rest of the story is all about how Gowri overcomes Swetha's father and Sarkar to gain Swetha's hand in marriage.

Sumanth

Sumanth (Telugu: సుమంత్) is a Telugu film actor hailing from the Akkineni family--he is the nephew of actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, and the grandson of actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He is also a partner in Annapurna Studios, a prominent film studio/production house that was established in 1975 by his grandfather.

Education

Sumanth studied at the Hyderabad Public School, completing his high school in I992. For his undergraduate studies, he went to the United States, where he enrolled in an engineering course at Michigan. Realizing that engineering didn't match his career aspirations, he later transferred to Columbia College in Chicago, where he majored in film. During his senior year in university, he was selected to the Dean's list in recognition of his academic excellence.

Career

Sumanth started his acting career in Telugu cinema in 1999 with Ram Gopal Varma's film Prema Katha. Despite moderate commercial success, the film received several Nandi Awards. His next film, Yuvakudu, directed by Karunakaran and co-starring the then debutant Bhumika Chawla, did average business at the box office but was critically hailed. His subsequent films, Pelli Sambandham, co-starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, and Snehamante Idera, where he co-starred alongside Akkineni Nagarjuna, failed at the box office.
However in late 2003, after a self-imposed hiatus of almost two years, he delivered his first blockbuster, Satyam. It also happened to be Genelia D'Souza's debut Telugu film. Satyam, which was produced by Akkineni Nagarjuna, was one of the highest grossing films of that year. Sumanth revealed later that this was one film where he actively involved himself in the production aspects as well. He followed it up with another hit film, Gowri, which confirmed him as a bonafide box office draw. It was a remake of the hit Tamil film Thirumalai, which starred Vijay and Jyothika. Gowri was instrumental in giving him an action image as well amongst the masses. In 2005, he starred in the flop Dhana 51 and the moderate hit Mahanandi, in which Anushka Shetty co-starred opposite him.
In 2006, Sumanth played the lead in Sekhar Kammula's romantic comedy Godavari. It remains one of the most acclaimed films of his career. In addition to receiving rave reviews and box office success, it went on to win multiple Nandi and Filmfare awards. The film was especially successful in giving Sumanth a new urban and Telugu international following. It is widely regarded as a modern day classic.
Sumanth's next film was the average running action/drama Chinnodu (2006). In 2007, he starred in two movies: Madhumasam and Classmates. The former, a romantic comedy/drama produced by his uncle D. Ramanaidu, was a hit at the box office, whereas the latter did not fare too well. In early 2008, Sumanth's home production, the action/drama Pourudu turned out to be a decent success at the box office. It was especially hailed for its action sequences. However his next film, Boni, produced by the music director Ramana Gogula and released in mid-2009, failed to repeat his previous success.
In 2010, after a gap of almost a year, Sumanth starred in Golconda High School, directed by the national award winning Indraganti Mohan Krishna under the Artbeat Capital banner, which previously produced the hit film Ashta Chamma. It was based on the English novel The Men Within written by the ex-cricketer, Harimohan Paruvu, and it is regarded to be Telugu cinema's first film in the sports genre. Released on January 15, 2011, it garnered excellent critical acclaim and was declared a commercial hit as well. Many critics and the public termed Sumanth's portrayal of a young cricket coach as one of his finest roles to date. This film is also slated to be dubbed into English for an upcoming international release.
Sumanth's next film was the romantic drama Raaj opposite the national award winning actress Priyamani, and Vimala Raman. The film was directed by V.N. Aditya, who earlier directed Manasantha Nuvve, Aata, and Nenunnanu. This film was released in March 2011, but failed miserably at the box office. To the surprise of many, Sumanth candidly admitted after release that he wasn't expecting much from this film as it was plagued with several problems during production. It was more or less a "salvage operation" according to him.
Subsequently, Sumanth starred in Daggaragaa Dooramgaa, a romantic thriller under the direction of the National and Nandi award winning writer/director Ravi Kumar Chavali, who earlier made the critically acclaimed film, Samanyudu. It released in August 2011, and did below average business at the box office. A lot of people cited the lack of proper promotion as one of the main reasons for its mediocre performance.
At present, Sumanth has signed up to act in a multi-starrer that's scheduled to go on floor this May. He is also planning to produce as well as star in another film later this year.

Personal life

Sumanth was born in Hyderabad, India on February 9, 1975. He is the only son of Surendra Yarlagadda and the late Satyavathi Akkineni. A few months after his birth, his parents returned to the US where they were residing. Sumanth however remained in India on the request of his grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He was subsequently adopted by his grandfather and his grandmother, the late Annapurna Akkineni.
Sumanth is also related to the prominent film producer and studio owner D. Ramanaidu through his father. The noted film producer, Suresh Babu Daggubati, and the famous actor, Venkatesh Daggubati, are his cousins. So are fellow actors, Naga Chaitanya Akkineni, Sushanth, and Rana Daggubati.
In August 2004, Sumanth married former actress Keerthi Reddy. They were however amicably divorced in 2006.
Sumanth presently resides in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, with his grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

Story

Bhai (Nassar) is a notrious mafia don in Hyderabad who masks his true nature by doing some good deeds for society. Pandu (Suman) is his right hand. Ajay (Sumanth) is Pandu's son. Ajay is a studious guy who wants to become an IAS officer. He clears the civils examination too. Hussain (Subbaraju) is a cop whose mission is to eliminate the mafia gangs in Hyderabad. Though son and father share a caring personal relationship, Ajay and Pandu fall out due to the latter's association with Bhai. The rest of the story is all about how the system forces Ajay to tread the wrong path in order to avenge the death of his father, and to eliminate Bhai and his mafia network.

Dhana 51

Story

Dhana (Sumanth) is a dynamic graduate who mingles with his ex-college students. His lifetime ambition is to become a cop. He wants to become cop genuinely without giving any bribes. He befriends a beautiful girl Lakshmi (Saloni), who happens to be the daughter of honest and most powerful Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra (Mukesh Khanna). Dhana and Lakshmi become best buddies over a period of time. Dhana gets fed up with bribery system in police selections and he decides to start a musical instruments shop to make a living.

Mahesh Chandra then convinces Dhana to act as undercover police agent to book dangerous goons in the city. Dhana pretends as rowdy and give leads of other rowdies to Mahesh Chandra. Mahesh Chandra's plan is to have open jail for all these goons and rehabilitate them as good citizens. Just when Dhana completes getting 50 rowdies to the book, Mahesh Chandra does the act of turning around. He books Dhana as 51st rowdy as an act of revenge for attracting his daughter. The rest of the story is all about how Dhana 51 proves himself innocent and get back to Lakshmi.

Artists Performance

Sumanth is good as a youngster with conviction. His commitment as an actor could be seen in vital scenes on the film (climax and interval block). Saloni looks pretty good in looks and her histrionics need to be toned a bit. Mukesh Khanna should be appreciated for retaining his voice for dubbing. His Telugu dubbing is good when you consider the fact that he is a Bollywood actor with no grip over Telugu language. He suited the role very well. The lean guy in first half generated good comedy with his mannerisms and dialogues. The comedy track of Kondavalasa and Ali is unimpressive. Raj Kumar is adequate as the bad guy. Tanikella Bharani and Dhamavarpu are appropriate. Director R Soorya Kiran and actress Kalyani gave special appearances.

Technical Departments:

Story: Story of the film is an interesting one and has the potential to click if handled properly. It is about a middleclass boy with an ambition to become a cop getting close to a girl. That girl's father - a police commissioner - notices that his daughter is giving more preference to a man who is other than her father. He gets jealous and fixes the boy on false charges. That boy solves the entire issue without breaking the heart of girl and without causing heart burn for her father. The story has positive orientation and scope for emotion and feel.

Screenplay - direction: The direction by Soorya Kiran is good in patches. But the screenplay of the film is pretty haphazard. The characters of the film are not well rounded. The director failed to establish the characters. The narration of the film is not gripping enough. At times, the clarity is missing in the narration. Soorya Kiran could not do justice to a good storyline. The open jail systems and procedures are not properly explained. The following 3 characters are the important ones and their characterization is not clearly done

1. There is no balance and clarity about Dhana's twin aspirations to become a cop and his willingness to befriend (love?) Lakshmi.
2. Lakshmi's feelings (love or friendship) towards Dhana are bit confusing through out the film.
3. Characterization of Mahesh Chandra lost its sheen because the agony he is going through when the daughter whom he adores the most is falling in love with a guy and she starts lying to him.

Other departments: Music by Chakri is just average. A couple of melodies are good though. Cinematography by S Arun Kumar is so so. The colors used for sets, background materials and costumes are not pleasing to eyes. Stunts by Vijay are good. Dialogues by Ravi and Soorya Kiran are adequate. The dialogues would have got noticed if they were backed by strong situations. Production values by Keerthi Creations are good.

Analysis: The initial part of first half is uninteresting. The buildup towards interval is interesting. The second half of the film is not handled enough to sustain interest. The climax point is interesting. Dhana 51 suffers with inadequate screenplay, uneven narration and confused characterization. 'Dhana 51' is most unexpected from a director who made his debut with 'Satyam' film. We need to wait and see how this film performs at box office.
