Plot
Dongodu is an remake version of Malayalam movie Meesa Madhavan and this is an Family Darma based movie. In which, Madhava (Ravi Teja) becomes a thief in his childhood to feed the hunger of his sister and he continues to be a notorious thief in that village. There is one landlord called Naidu (Tanikella Bharani) who exploits the people around by unfair means. Rukhmini (Kalyani) is the daughter of Naidu. Seenu
(Jagapati Babu) is an age-barred bewarse candidate who
roams with a gang of six and merry around by doing useless
work. He falls in love with Seeta (Kalyani) - a teacher
in elementary school. He comes to know that Seeta wants
to marry a guy who is in better position than her. Lingaraju
(Ramaraju) has been the unanimous president of that
village for the past 25 years. Lingaraju is corrupted
to the core. It's time for elections. Seenu want to
become president of village so that he could serve the
village and at the same time could fulfill the requirement
of being in a superior position to Seeta so that he
could marry her. He challenges Lingaraju that he would
defeat him. The rest of the story is all about how he
achieves his objective.
Jagapati Babu: Jagapati Babu is superb as the
bewarse guy. His body language is apt. And he improvised
his modulation to a great extent to suit the character.
He is completely at home playing this character. His
comedy timing is also perfect.

Story:
Story given by Vegnesa Satish has lots of resemblance
to Jagapati-Valluripally combination hit 'Kabaddi Kabaddi'.
Both these films are about winning a bet for marrying
the girl. In Kabaddi Kabaddi, heroine is aware of the
fact that hero loves her where as in this film heroine
is not aware. In both films, heroine inspires hero to
win bets.
Other
departments: Dialogues by Vegnesa Satish are good.
Music by Chakri is OK. Second and fourth songs in the
film are good. He borrowed the Ilayaraja's work again
for the background music of vital scenes in this film.
Photography by Sarat is average. This film is made on
a pretty low budget.
Peda
Babu (Jagapati Babu) is the village head. He stays alone
and away from his mother (Suhasini) who is staying in
the same village along with Peda Babu's father and siblings.
The entire village respects Pedababu as village head.
But why is Pedababu staying away from his mother. He
has not spoken a word to her for the past 25 years.
What is the reason? That exact flashback has the major
interest part of the story.
Jagapati
Babu: Jagapati Babu did the role of Shiva devotee
in this film. He looked appropriate for the role. He
has fewer dialogues in the film. Macho men do not fantasize.
Hence all the songs in the films are picturized as the
dream elements from heroine's point view where Jagapati
Babu has to just walk around and heroine does the rest.
Others:
Suhasini is incredible as mother of Jagapati Babu. She
is very unglamorous in the mother's role. You can see
the yearning for her son in her longing eyes all the
times. Sunil is the only entertainment provider in this
film with his cell phone comedy. Kota is underutilized.
Ponnambalam is handicapped after the first fight. Vizag
Prasad is fair. Vijayachandar did a guest role of astrologer
in this film.
Story:
The story has got flavor of typical Tamil flicks. It
is also rumored that this film is inspired by a Tamil
flick starring Prabhu which came around 15-20 years
back (copyrights expired). However the following two
points look little uncomfortable.
Screenplay
- direction: Paruchuri Murali did a decent job
as the director though he lacks clarity of narration
in quite a few scenes. He is an expert in getting the
sentimental scenes right. The screenplay of the film
is pretty average. The narration is quite old-fashioned.
He would have a good future if he can overcome the weakness
of lack of clarity in narration.
Music:
Music by Chakri would create a feeling of déjà
vu. All the songs in this film would make you feel that
you have listened to them before. The same feeling goes
with background music as well. He conveniently picked
up 'nayakudu' (evaru chepparu song) tune as background
music for the scenes between Suhasini and Jagapati Babu.
He also used Chiranjeevi background score for Indra
character as the background beat for Jagapati Babu in
action sequences.
