Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee Pannu (born 1 August 1987), also known by the mononym Taapsee, is an Indian model-turned-film actress, who mainly works in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. Born in a Punjabi family, Taapsee worked as a software professional and also pursued a career in modelling before becoming an actress. During her modelling career, she appeared in a number of commercials and won titles such as "Pantaloons Femina Miss Fresh Face" and "Safi Femina Miss Beautiful Skin" in 2008.
After a short stint with modelling, Taapsee made her acting debut with the 2010 Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam directed by Raghavendra Rao. Since then, she has appeared in a number of critically acclaimed films such as Aadukalam, Vastadu Naa Raju, Mr. Perfect, and Vandhaan Vendraan. Her Tamil film Aadukalam met with critical acclaim and enjoyed commercial success upon release and eventually went on to win six National Film Awards at the 58th National Film Awards. She has also worked in a Malayalam film and has been signed in for three Telugu films and a Hindi film.

Biography

Early life and family

Taapsee was born on 1 August 1987 in Delhi, India into a Punjabi family. She has a sister named Shagun Pannu and plans to launch her into films as well. She did her schooling at the Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. After completing her graduation in computer science engineering from the Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology in New Delhi, she worked as a software engineer. Taapsee has developed "fontswap", an application for the iPhone. She became a full-time model, after she auditioned and was selected for Channel [V]'s talent show Get Gorgeous, which eventually led her to acting. Taapsee has appeared in numerous print and television commercials and won several titles during her modelling days, including "Pantaloons Femina Miss Fresh Face" and "Safi Femina Miss Beautiful Skin" at the 2008 Femina Miss India contest. As a model, she endorsed brands like Reliance Trends, Red FM, UniStyle Image, Coca-Cola, Motorola, Pantaloon, PVR Cinemas, Standard Chartered Bank, Dabur, Airtel, Tata Docomo, World Gold Council, Havells and Vardhman. She has also been featured on the cover of some magazines such as Just For Women and MaaStars. After a few years, she lost interest in modelling as she thought that she could never gain proper recognition through modelling but only through films, and finally decided to act.

2010–present: Debut in films

Taapsee made her cinematic debut in 2010 with K. Raghavendra Rao's romantic musical Jhummandi Naadam. She played the role of a daughter of a US based millionaire who comes to India to carry out a research on traditional Telugu music. Taapsee got three more offers in Telugu prior to the film's release. Her next film Aadukalam (2011), marked her debut in Tamil cinema. She played the role of an Anglo-Indian girl falling in love with a rural fellow played by Dhanush. The film, set in the backdrop of Madurai, in a rural background, and revolves around cockfights. It was critically acclaimed and proceeded to win six National Film Awards at the 58th National Film Awards. Speaking about her role, a reviewer from Sify explained that, "Debutant Taapsee is a promising find and she suits the character of an Anglo Indian girl to the T." She returned to the Telugu film industry with Vastadu Naa Raju (2011) which featured her opposite Vishnu Manchu. She made a foray into the Malayalam film industry later that year, through Doubles (2011) opposite Mammootty and Nadiya Moidu. A review from Rediff commented that, "Taapsee Pannu as Saira Banu, whose entry into the scene becomes the bone of contention between the siblings, has nothing noteworthy to do".
Taapsee played a short role in her next release, Mr. Perfect (2011), in which she acted alongside Prabhas and Kajal Aggarwal was a moderate success. She starred in a high budget film titled Veera (2011) opposite Ravi Teja and Kajal Aggarwal, that received moderate reviews. She was next seen in her second Tamil film Vandhaan Vendraan that fetched mixed reviews and did not fare well at the box office. Her next film was Krishna Vamsi's Mogudu where she acted as a traditional Telugu girl opposite Gopichand and garnered critical acclaim for her performance. She is currently working on the Tamil–Telugu bilingual Gundello Godari—titled Maranthen Mannithen in Tamil— apart from Daruvu and Shadow She is also making her Bollywood debut through Chashme Baddoor where she shares the screen with Siddharth and Rishi Kapoor. The film is a remake of the 1981 film with the same title.

Tamannaah

Tamannaah Bhatia (born 21 December 1989) is an Indian film actress and model, who performs under the mononym Tamannaah and predominantly appears in Telugu and Tamil cinema. In 2005, she made her acting debut in the Hindi film, Chand Sa Roshan Chehra, before working in the major South Indian film industries. Also in 2005, Tamannaah made her Telugu debut in Sri, and in the following year she appeared in her first Tamil film, Kedi. In 2007, she starred in two college-life-based drama films, Happy Days in Telugu and Kalloori in Tamil, which both earned her critical acclaim.
After being part of the several commercially successful films, including Padikathavan (2009), Ayan (2009), Paiyaa (2010) and Siruthai (2011), she emerged a leading contemporary actresses in the Tamil film industry and became informally referred to as the "Queen of Kollywood". She staged a successful comeback in Telugu cinema in 2011 with the romance film 100% Love (2011), which won her several accolades. She subsequently became signed up for several high-profile projects thereafter. With Rachcha (2012), she eventually established herself as one of Telugu cinema's leading contemporary actresses.

Early life

Tamannaah was born on 21 December 1989 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to Santosh and Rajani Bhatia and she has an elder brother, Anand. Her father is a financial consultant. She is of Sindhi descent. She did her schooling in Maneckji Cooper Educational Trust School, Juhu, Mumbai whilst she is currently pursuing a BA degree at National College, Mumbai through distance education. She later changed her screen name for numerological reasons, varying it slightly to Tamannaah. She has been working since the age of 13 since she was spotted at her school’s annual day function and offered the lead role which she took up. She also appeared in the music video of "Lafzon Mein Keh Na Saku" by Abhijeet Sawantm, the winner of the first Indian Idol.

Career

Early career

Tamannaah started her acting career in 2005, essaying the female lead role in Chand Sa Roshan Chehra, her only Hindi film to date. The same year, she debuted in Telugu cinema in Sri, playing the leading female role opposite Manoj Kumar. In 2006, she made her debut in the Tamil film industry in Kedi, produced by A. M. Rathnam, along with Ravi Krishna and another newcomer, Ileana D'Cruz. In 2007, she had three releases. After her role in the unsuccessful Vyapari, Tamannaah rose to popularity with the Sekhar Kammula-directed Telugu film Happy Days which received positive reviews and became her first major box office success. Her next release was the Tamil drama film Kalloori, directed by Balaji Sakthivel, that won her accolades and critical acclaim in Tamil as well. In 2008, Tamannaah again had three releases, appearing only in cameo roles in two of them.

Lead actress in Tamil cinema

In 2009, she received box office success with Padikathavan, with Dhanush. Her next Tamil film Ayan became a huge blockbuster and made her a leading star in the Tamil film industry. Her next release was a Telugu movie Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam opposite Siddharth. It became a success and she was praised for her refreshing performance. Her next film was Ananda Tandavam, which sank without a trace although her performance was praised by critics. Her successive release Kandein Kadhalai, which was a remake of the 2007 Hindi blockbuster Jab We Met, was considered a moderate success. She did the role originally played by Kareena Kapoor and was praised by critics for her performance. Her first 2010 release was Lingusamy's romantic-action flick Paiyaa co-starring Karthi, which went on to become a blockbuster. Her next release was Sura opposite Vijay. The film opened to negative reviews and became a disaster. Her performance was panned by critics. Her next release was Thillalangadi with Jayam Ravi, which became an above average grosser and her performance was praised.

Comeback in Telugu cinema

Tamannaah appeared in six films in 2011, five of which featured her in a starring role. Her first release was the Tamil action film, Siruthai alongside Karthi, with the film becoming a blockbuster, although her character was received poorly by critics, with a reviewer citing that she offered "little more than arm-candy". Her next release was her first Telugu release after two years, the highly successful romantic comedy 100% Love (2011) with Naga Chaitanya, which fetched positive reviews from both critics and viewers. Tamannaah won the CineMAA Award for Best Actress, besides receiving nominations at various award ceremonies. She was next seen in the historical Badhrinaadh (2011) opposite Allu Arjun that became a critical and commercial failure, which was followed by a Tamil action-masala film again, Hari's Venghai (2011). The film was not well received, however critics lauded her performance. Her final release of 2011 was Oosaravelli, starring Jr. NTR. Her first film in 2012 was Ram Charan Teja starrer Rachaa, which became a huge blockbuster. Her latest release Endhukante Premanta featuring her opposite Ram, opened to average reviews. Her upcoming films portray her in lead role opposite Prabhas in Rebel, and Pawan Kalyan in Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu. She is also set to star in her second Hindi film, Himmatwala opposite Ajay Devgn.

Other work

Tamannaah also has experience as a model appearing in various television commercials. She is endorsing popular brands like Celkon Mobiles and Chandrika Ayurvedic Soap. Before entering the film industry, she also acted in Tamil advertisements like Shakthi Masala.

Swathi who is familiar to the viewers of Maa TV channel as ‘Colors’ Swathi. She was born in was born in Martur, West Godavari District. Her father holds a job in the Navy. She is very good in acting and failed to create a vacuum in film industry as heroine Her Tamil film Subramaniyapuram was one of the big hits in 2008 and she was appreciated for her performance.

This film was dubbed in Telugu as Ananthapuram 1980. Now she had presently signed up two Tamil movies, one with Vikram in Selvaraghavan’s direction and the other with Jai produced by T.Siva of Amma creations.

Colours Swathi is now acting in the film titled ‘Kalavaramaye Madilo’. Swathi was hurt in a mishap when she was shooting for a scene at a pond near Munnar. Swathi slipped and fell in the pond and she was badly bruised. The shooting was canceled for the day and Swathi was treated for the injuries. She recovered quickly and reported for shooting after a couple of days rest. Kamal Kamaraju of Avakaya Biriyanai fame is the hero. The film is a romantic entertainer with a musical.

Richa Gangopadhyay

Richa Gangopadhyay (born Antara Gangopadhyay on 20 March 1986) is an Indian film actress, model and former beauty queen. After appearing in commercials, she made her film debut in the 2010 Telugu political drama Leader. Since then, she went on to win critical acclaim for her role in Nagavalli and commercial success with her role in Mirapakaay. In 2011, she starred in her first Tamil film, Mayakkam Enna, receiving positive reviews for her performance.

Career

Early career and modelling, 2005–09

In 2005 and 2006, Richa began participating in beauty pageants and finished in the top ten in the Miss India USA competitions, winning a smaller prize for Miss Congeniality. In August 2007, Richa won the Miss Michigan pageant and in December, she was crowned Miss India USA 2007 at the 26th annual pageant held at Royal Albert's Palace in New Jersey. During the competition, she also secured the title of Miss Photogenic and qualified to represent USA in the 17th Annual Miss India Worldwide Pageant held in Johannesburg. Richa left the USA in 2008 to Shastrinagar, India to embark on a career in films. She subsequently graduated with a diploma in acting from Anupam Kher's acting school, Actor Prepares, and completed her portfolio, earning offers for work in fashion shows and for modelling. In early 2009, Richa featured in a commercial for Vatika Almond Hair Oil alongside Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, while she also worked as a model for Peter England, Malabar Gold and Kalaniketan in the period.

Breakthrough in films, 2009–present

Richa was signed on to portray the lead role in the 2010 Telugu film, Leader produced by AVM Productions and directed by Sekhar Kammula. She was recommended to an assistant director of Leader whilst at a gym, who in turn recommended her to Sekhar Kammula. Richa moved to Hyderabad and auditioned for the film on her birthday. She was selected instantly and shooting started 2 days later. In the film, she played the role of Archana, a CEO of a TV channel and a daughter of a politician who falls in love with the title character, played by debutant Rana Daggubati. The film opened to positive reviews and did well commercially, with Richa's performance described as "pretty and charming" and "good in a performance oriented role" by critics. After the success of the film, director P. Vasu signed her up to appear in Nagavalli, a sequel to his 2005 film Chandramukhi. The film featured an ensemble cast of Venkatesh, Anushka Shetty, Shraddha Das and Poonam Kaur. During the production of the film, Vasu was initially unimpressed and Richa has revealed that he had planned to drop her from the project. The film also opened to mixed reviews, with Richa's portrayal of a girl psychologically possessed by the ghost of Nagavalli, leading to critics dubbing her as "impressive" and "convincing".
Her first release in 2011 was the action film Mirapakaay also featuring Ravi Teja and Deeksha Seth in lead roles. She was signed after the director of the film, Harish Shankar, had noticed her at the success party of her previous film Leader. He initially offered her the role played by Deeksha as she was an NRI, but when they met to review the script, he was convinced that Richa would do justice to the character of Vinamra, a traditional Brahmin girl. The film opened to good reviews with Richa's performance being described as "just about okay" by critics.Richa was next seen in two Tamil films; the first being Mayakkam Enna, a drama film based on marriage featuring Dhanush and directed by Selvaraghavan. Furthermore she signed on to appear alongside Silambarasan in a leading role in Dharani's Osthe, the Tamil remake of the 2010 Hindi film Dabangg. In 2012, she made her debut in Bengali, her mother tongue, through the film Bikram Singha : The Lion Is Back opposite the prolific Prosenjit Chatterjee, a remake of the Telugu film Vikramarkudu. She is also shooting for a Telugu film Vaaradhi which will be released by mid-2012.

Personal life

Richa Gangopadhyay was born on 20 March 1986 in a Bengali Brahmin family, to Utpal and Paula Gangopadhyay, in New Delhi Her father works as the COO of Netshape Technologies, while her mother works as a Director of Education at The Henry Ford Museum in Detroit. Her parents settled in the USA in 1989 after spending her first year in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, with Richa being brought up in Pennsylvania and Michigan. While attending Okemos High School, she was featured in the local media for founding a youth-tutoring program for at-risk children in Lansing, which she ran for four years. She went on to major in Dietetics and Health Administration at Michigan State University, Michigan.

She was launched in films in 2001-2002 in Telugu Films and later in Tamil and Malayalam Films. She was occasionally confused with Tamil Actress Sneha for the fact that both of them came to India from the Gulf- Sneha from UAE, Sharjah and Gajala from Kuwait.

Charmme Kaur

Charmee Kaur (also spelt as Charmee or Charmi) is an Indian film actress, who has predominantly appeared in Telugu films. She acted with stars such as Nandamuri Balakrishna, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Jr. NTR, Prabhas, Siddarth, Ravi Teja, Sumanth, Nitin, Silambarasan and Dileep. She is known for her dedication to learn Telugu in short span of time. Charmi gave her voice to Kajal Aggarwal in the movie Chandamama (2007).

Early life

Charmy was born in Mumbai and her family is of Punjabi -Sikh background. She studied in Carmelite Convent English High School in Vasai.

Career

She made her acting debut in the 2002 Telugu film Nee Thodu Kaavali, in which she acted as a housewife at a young age of 15. This film was a flop, but helped Charmme in getting noticed by the south Indian film industry. Her next film was Kadhal Azhivathillai with Silambarasan, which was also a flop. During this time she acted in a Malayalam film directed by Vinayan named Kattuchembakam. This film also bombed in box office. After that she acted in a couple more Tamil films but they bombed at the box office.
Her re-entry to Telugu movies happened with Neeke Manasichhaanu a film with Sreekanth which was a failure; then in Sri Anjaneyam, directed by ace director Krishna Vamsi which too was a failed attempt. It was followed by another failure with Chanti, paired against Ravi Teja. She finally got a big break in Telugu with Gowri in which she was paired with Sumanth. She didn't have to look back afterwards. The stupendous success of Mass with Nagarjuna strengthened her position in Tollywood. Charmme's most indistinguishable and critically acclaimed film so far is Anukokunda Oka Roju. It was a heroine-oriented thriller. Her performance in the movie was acclaimed by critics.
In 2006 she acted in Pournami which was a total failure in spite of high expectations, but her performance was appreciated. Though she did not learn Indian classical dance, her Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dances in the film were appreciated by audiences. Later that year she was paired for the second time with Sumanth in Chinnodu but it was not a successful venture. Her next film, Rakhi (with NTR), was a hit. In 2007 Mantra, a thriller with Charmme in the lead role, was declared as a surprise hit.This performance fetched her the Nandi Award for the best herione of 2007. Amrita Rao (əmrɪt̪aː ˈraːu; born June 7, 1981) is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. Beginning her career as a model, Rao made her acting debut with Ab Ke Baras (2002). She then starred in Ken Ghosh's love-story Ishq Vishk (2003) and earned a Filmfare nomination in the "Best Female Debut" category.

Personal life Amrita was born in Mumbai to a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family She speaks Hindi, English, Marathi, besides her mother tongue, Konkani. She attended Convent Girls School (Prabhadevi) in Mumbai, and later enrolled in Sophia College to pursue a degree in Psychology. Her sister, Preetika Rao, is a Model, Journalist-Columnist and a South-Indian film actress. Keerthi Reddy

Keerthi Reddy (Telugu: కీర్తి రెడ్డి) (born 17 November 1978) is an Indian former film actress. She has acted in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada movies.

Early life

Reddy was born to interior designer and mother a dress designer. Her grandfather is Ganga Reddy, Ex Member of Parliament from Nizamabad in Andhra Pradesh. She was raised in Bangalore. She did her schooling in Jiddu Krishnamurthy's The Valley School near Bangalore. She was trained in Bharatanatyam for eight years. She briefly attended St. Joseph Public School in Hyderabad. She also attended Ryerson University for higher education in Toronto, Canada and Baltimore, U.S.

Career

Keerthi Reddy made her acting debut in the Telugu language film Gunshot directed by S. V. Krishna Reddy. After that, she made her Kollywood debut in Devathai in 1997. In 1999, Reddy starred in Tholi Prema opposite Pawan Kalyan. Reddy dropped out of two films in 1999, Vaali and Sethu.
In 2000, Reddy made her Bollywood debut in Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Her next film Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat featured her as Isha Nair opposite the debutant Arjun Rampal. Her role was of a girl who was loved by three men Gaurav Saxena, Yash Sabarwal and Taj Bharadwaj. The latter two roles were portrayed by Suniel Shetty and Aftab Shivdasani. In 2002, Reddy had a supporting role in Badhaai Ho Badhaai opposite Anil Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty. After a career in Bollywood, she stopped acting in Hindi films.
In 2002, Reddy acted in Super Star, her only Kannada film. In 2004, Reddy acted in the Telugu film Arjun, for which she received her only award, a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in Telugu.

Personal life

Keerthi married an actor Sumanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni's nephew and the grandson of ANR in 2004. They divorced in 2006. She later remarried and has a baby boy.

Manisha Koirala

Manisha B. Koirala (born August 16, 1970) is a Nepali-Indian actress who works in Indian films, as well as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and social activist. Koirala has primarily worked in Hindi cinema, though she has appeared in several Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films as well. She is also an accomplished Bharatnatyam and Manipuri dancer. Making her acting debut in the Nepali film Pheri Bhetaula (1989), Koirala made her Bollywood debut with the top-grossing drama Saudagar (1991). She went on to establish herself as one of the leading actresses with such mainstream films as 1942: A Love Story (1994), Agni Sakshi (1996) and Gupt (1997).
Recognised for her acting prowess, Koirala was noted for her performances in films like Bombay (1995), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Dil Se.. (1998) and Company (2002). She has won the Filmfare Critics' Award thrice and has received four nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress so far. Although box-office collections of her films have varied considerably, critics have noted that her niche as an actor remains unharmed irrespective of her commercial potent. Off-screen she is frequented in the media as being a "controversy’s child" with her bohemian stance and candid comments often described as "outspoken" and "bold".

Manisha Koirala was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, into the politically prominent Koirala family to Prakash Koirala and Sushma Koirala. Her grandfather Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala was the Prime Minister of Nepal during the late 1950s-early 1960s, as well as two of her late great-uncles, Girija Prasad Koirala and Matrika Prasad Koirala. She studied at Vasant Kanya Mahavidhyalaya (VKM), Varanasi until Class X. She stayed with her grandmother in Varanasi during her studies. After passing tenth standard she shifted to the Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi (APS). Her ambition was to be a doctor, but a modelling stint opened a career path into Bollywood.
Her brother Siddharth Koirala is also an actor, and collaborated with her once in the film Anwar.
In 2004, she returned from New York after receiving a diploma in filmmaking. She became a member of an independent documentary filmmaker's society.

Personal life

On June 19, 2010, Koirala married Samrat Dahal in a traditional ceremony held in Kathmandu. The couple spent their honeymoon in Finland. They met through the online social networking website, Facebook. She was reportedly engaged in 2001 to Crispin Conroy, the former Australian ambassador to Nepal, but they broke up later. There were also reports of her dating American speaker and author, Christopher Dorris, but that relationship also ended.

Social work

In September 1999, Koirala was appointed as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador. She is actively involved in social work, specifically working with organizations to promote women’s rights, prevention of violence against women, and also to prevent the human trafficking of Nepali girls for prostitution.

Namrata Shirodkar

Namrata Shirodkar (born 22 January 1972 in Mumbai, India) is an Indian actress and model.

Biography

Namrata Shirodkar was born in a moderate Maharashtrian maratha family. She used to live in Khar, a suburb in Mumbai. Her sister is the actress Shilpa Shirodkar. She is the granddaughter of famous Marathi actress Meenakshi Shirodkar, who starred in Brahmachari (1930s), and (Meenakshi)was the first actress to wear a swimsuit and gambol in a pool. She married Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu Ghattamaneni on 10 February 2005.

Modelling career

Namrata worked as a model, and was crowned Miss India in the year 1993. She represented India in the Miss Universe pageant and came in fifth place. She was featured on VH1's The Greatest: 40 Dumbest Celebrity Quotes Ever for her answer at the 1993 Miss Universe contest to a question asked by Michael Dorn: "I would not want to live forever because I don't believe that one can live forever. And so, I don't think I would want to live forever!" The same year, she also represented India in the Miss Asia Pacific contest and was chosen first runner-up.

Acting career

She made her debut with a small role in super hit film Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), along with Salman Khan and Twinkle Khanna. She then went on to star in the hit Vaastav. Her performance was appreciated and she became a known name in Bollywood.
She has played mainly supporting roles in films. Films like Pukar, Hera Pheri and Astitva went on to do well. She was nominated for the IIFA Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Pukar. Since then her films have not done well at the box office.
In 1999, she starred opposite Mammootty in the Malayalam film Ezhupunna Tharakan. In 2004, she starred opposite Chiranjeevi in a Telugu Movie Anji. In the same year, she was back into the spotlight when she played the role of Jaya Bakshi in Bride and Prejudice. She played Aishwarya Rai's elder sister in the film. The film was a hit overseas particularly in the UK but failed to do well in India. She left the industry after her marriage.

Personal life

She began dating Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu in 2000 after the filming of Vamsi. They married on 10 February 2005. Shirodkar now lives in Hyderabad with her husband. Their first child, a boy named Gautam Krishna Gattamaneni was born on 31 August 2006.
