Premabhishekam (2008)
Premabhishekam - Review
Yesteryear's blockbuster Premabhishekam is penned and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. Premabhishekam..veediki cancer ledhu, the latest one acted and produced by Venu Madhav, is also penned by Dasari Narayana Rao. The title itself explains the entire story. Old Premabhishekam with a bit of twist. What if the protagonist did not really have cancer? What if he realized he does not have cancer after he broke the heart of his love? That is the new Premabhishekam in short.

Nageswara Rao (Venu Madhav) runs away from home to avoid a forced marriage. He then falls in love with a girl Sridevi (Priyamohan). When they are about to get married, Nageswara Rao gets to konw that he is diagnosed with blood cancer. To break the heart of Sridevi, he enacts a love story with Jayasudha (Ruthika). He has to travel to Mumbai with Jayasudha and realizes that Jayasudha is the sister of Hari (Srihari), a mafia leader. Meanwhile, Nageswara Rao gets to know that he does not cancer. What happens next is the rest of the film.

Venu Madhav is the hero and producer of the film. Getting used to seeing Venu Madhav in short and hillarious roles, it is a bit uncomfortable watching his full length in the film. But he did a commendable job. Special mention should go to his dances. This is the debut film for Priyamohan but she did her role with ease. Ruthika did a good role in this film. There is nothing much to talk about Sunil, who did the role of Venu Madhav's friend. There are a bunch of characters which were not given proper characterization or prominence.

In terms of casting, highlight of the film are Srihari and Nagendra Babu. Srihari as Mafia leader Hari and Nagendra Babu as Naga who is in pursuit of Hari's life did a great job.

This is the second film for Vikram Gandhi as director. (State Rowdy is the first one). He should have handled several things carefully. Especially with the comedy. He tried to force some comedy unnecessarily which did not click. Instead of helping the film, such efforts will only backfire, if the comedy fails to click. Screenplay is very patchy too. These flaws are pretty evident in the first half of hte film. Second half gets better and is good.

Technically, Chakri's music is very good for this film. Vandanam Abhivandanam remix is done well. Main negative in the film are the dialogs. It could be the case of too many cooks spoiling a dish. There are 4 writers for this film. Srinivasa Reddy's camera work could have been better. It felt like watching a TV serial all through.

Overall, first half is boring and second half is successful in generating some comedy. The film proves the point that overdose of anything turns sour. (Athi Sarvatra Varjyiyeth). Chances for the film are better in B,C Centers.
